Hood
Well the battlefield it smells the same
Yet John Bell Hood shouldn’t take the blame,
But you don’t really care for the stench, do you?
Well it goes like this, they run they fall
Some were missed and some were glory called,
The Allah pawn composing hallelujah.
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah.
Well duty was done but you couldn’t stop
You saw your comrades and heard the pop,
His hatred and the firing overcame you.
He picked them off shooting one by one
And he broke his vows and left you none,
And from his lips he mocked the hallelujah.
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah.
Well buddy we’ve been here before
You’ve seen the war and you’ve closed the door,
You used to live alone before we knew you.
But now we’ve seen your heart on your sleeve
And your fitful nightmares some won’t leave,
It’s a saddened and mournful hallelujah.
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah.
Well there was a time when we didn’t know
What the markers meant in row by row,
But now you can feel the nation’s pain, can’t you?
And remember when our fathers fought
The evil deeds and the freedoms wrought,
And every song we sang was hallelujah.
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah.
Well maybe there’s a God you tell
And he’s not for killing the infidel,
Or promising maiden virgins to fool you.
But looking over the tears at Hood
And now it’s a cry that’s understood,
It’s a time to weep and mourn hallelujah.
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah.
Tex, extremely well done! And, it is a moving tribute to those who have gone before us. I happened to be at Arlington National Cemetary, burying my Mother next to my Dad, the Thursday that one of those murdered was laid to rest with the Honor Guard, cassion, rifle squad, and all trappings that went with the act of saying goodbye to a fallen hero. As Taps were sounded out, our thoughts and prayers went with it.
